With a history spanning over 200 years, Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo occupies over 120 ha of land, and has been listed since the first demarcation of the Douro wine region, in 1756, during the Pombaline era.
The original wine cellar that dates back to 1764 and the 19th century manor house with a chapel (1795) are harmoniously integrated into one of the estate's hills.
Owned by the Portuguese Royal Family until 1725, it became a “new estate” when two estates were merged. Several Portuguese families lived in the estate in the 18th and 19th centuries, during an important period in the agriculture of the Douro, and gave life to the vineyards and wine, fruit orchards, water mills built along the stream that runs through the estate and the old olive grove. In the 17th century, a small chapel was built on the bank of the Douro river, in the Quinta Nova estate to protect the men who sailed in rabelo boats along a particularly treacherous zone of the Douro river. During their journey, when in difficulty or even risking death, the boatmen made promises to their patron saint, in return for safe passage. At their request a granite stone statue of Nossa Senhora do Carmo (Our Lady of Mount Carmel) was built, bearing the scapular of the Carmelite Order. Carefully preserved over the years, the statue is still kept today in the small chapel of Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo, whose name derives from the devotion of the rabelo boatsmen. Since 1999 the estate’s history has been intensely lived by the Amorim family. Now in its fourth generation, the Amorim family has been linked to the wine trade since 1870, through its first trading activity - producing cork stoppers for the Port Wine Cellars, in Vila Nova de Gaia. It is now one of the most prominent family groups in Portugal, and operates in several countries of the world, in different business sectors. The estate is now managed by Luisa Amorim, who has significantly augmented the family's wine business. With deep cultural awareness, the wines have ancestral roots in Portugal’s finest wine regions, including unique places such as the Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo in the Douro and the Quinta da Taboadella in the Dão region.
Tasting Notes
This wine surprises us with its purity and sophistication. It results from a perfect combination of Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo’s main grape varieties: Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Tinto Cão - a beautiful composition that reflects the simplicity and transparency of our terroir.
The wine’s intense colour stimulates individual memories and transports us to the immense vineyard and rugged landscape of the Douro wine terraces. A broad journey of flavours is manifested through the density and strength of the pleasant and seductive aromas, with a more sophisticated side provided by the use of good French oak barrels. At the time of tasting it closes with a muscular structure and a juicy texture that intertwine with the body of the wine, providing for a tense, long and deep finish.

"Bringing out the rugged character of the Douro Superior, this wine has a dense texture, its wood aging revealed in the toast aroma. It has full, black fruits, concentrated, lifted with acidity. Drink from 2026." – R.V.I

There is an additional charge to re-route orders already in transit.
Some items are removed from original packaging, and placed in protective shipping containers to ensure safe delivery.
While most orders are shipped the day they are placed. The demand for limited supplies will occasionally deplete our stock of a paticular product, in this case it will generally take an additional 1 - 2 business days to receive the product and fufill the order.
Although it is rare, if there was a packing error, we would like to resolve it for you! In the event that we shipped an incorrect item, we may ask you to hold on to those items and the exsisting packaging so that we can arrange for a return pick up. Occasionally a chosen vintage of a wine may sell out or be replaced by a new release after your order is placed. Bottles of wine that are under $20, will not hold up an order and we will simply automatically substitute the wine with the comparable vintage. Please be assured that we will only substitute with a vintage for the same wine. Wine that is valued more than $20 per bottle, we will attempt to contact the customer. After two attempts, the available vintage will be automatically shipped out. (The return policy of $15 return shipping costs, and 15% restocking fee will be enforced.)
Yiannis Wine will not be held liable for damages to orders due to weather conditions during shipping. Potential exposure to extreme heat or cold may damage items during shipping. As we can not be held responsible for products damaged due to weather, we suggest you choose FedEx Express to ship your items and/or add ice packs to your order (during extreme heat) to help prevent damages. We can also place your orders on weather hold until weather conditions improve. Wine is usually fine if it is exposed to some heat (as that is the way wine is made.....Heated so the yeast is activated). If your wine is warm, please place them in a cool, dark room so the wine can "settle."
Most returns will be accepted, but ALL bottles must be returned to get credit. A half bottle or empty bottle of something that did not taste GOOD is fine to return, but the customer will not receive full credit if the bottle is not included.
Sometimes an order is returned to our warehouse after several delivery attempts at the address provided by the customer. We are happy to reship the order however, reshipment fees will apply. Please contact us and we will assist you with the reshipment arrangements.
We are happy to assist with any returns for items purchased that you no longer want or need. Please let us know and we will arrange for the return and issue a credit or refund for your returned items, less the return shipping and handling charges.
We offer some of the most diverse wines in the business, and we are happy to help you choose wines and provide recommendations by our sommeliers if you desire. Everyone has different tastes and Yiannis Wine will not be held responsible for customer choice. While ratings, testimonials, and reviews may influence your decision, the ultimate judgement is yours.
