I\u003cbr\u003ecarried that devotion for mountain wines with me when\u003cbr\u003eI moved up to Dry Creek Valley in 1983 to develop a\u003cbr\u003evineyard and build my house on Bradford Mountain.\u003cbr\u003eThis wine encapsulates all of the best qualities found in\u003cbr\u003emountain grown Zinfandels from the Dry Creek Valley\u003cbr\u003eappellation. Poorer soils and colder nights harness and\u003cbr\u003epreserve more of the bright acidity and freshness in\u003cbr\u003ethe grapes. More sunlight hours at the higher elevation\u003cbr\u003emeans darker, richer fruit. Unlike benchland Zins,\u003cbr\u003emountain Zins have a peppery quality and more black\u003cbr\u003efruit character (think wild blackberry).\u003cbr\u003eIn the 2019 estate vineyard Zinfandel, we combined\u003cbr\u003ewine from our head-trained block, as well as our trellised\u003cbr\u003erows of Zin, with 5% estate-grown Petite Sirah. The\u003cbr\u003eresult was a delicious wine with a perfect blance of\u003cbr\u003estructure and flavors.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eTasting Notes\u003cbr\u003eSeductive aromatics of a fresh berry tart laced with\u003cbr\u003ebrown baking spices fill the senses. From the first sip,\u003cbr\u003ean inherent brightness lifts the wine across the palate,\u003cbr\u003eleaving a cedary spice trail in its wake. Intense flavors\u003cbr\u003eof ripe blackberry, black cherry and black raspberry\u003cbr\u003eare joined by dark plum. Traces of fresh peach and a\u003cbr\u003emineral essence appear as the wine lingers.
