This area is located inland from the Altantic Ocean and thus warmer than the coast, allowing for perfect maturation and balance in the fruit. The soils are granite and schist.

Vinification Notes: Whole clusters are pressed lightly, and the juice ferments at 54 degrees Fahrenheit for up to 36 hours. The wine is filtered and cold stabilized. Nortico Rosé spends four months in stainless steel and is filtered again prior to bottling in February. Nortico has no added CO2, but its bright acidity gives the illusion of petillance on the palate.

Tasting Notes: Alvarelhao and Pedral contribute freshness and complexity, and Vinhao brings volume and weight. Bright red berry and watermelon fruit are complemented by saline minerality on the nose. The palate is light and delicate with mouthwatering red fruit flavors and refreshing acidity. Nortico Rosé is dangerously easy to drink on its own, but complements all manner of shellfish, seafood, and simple cheese dishes.

About the Label from Rui Abecassis, founder of Obrigado: "The design for the label of Nortico Rosé comes from my family’s small atelier where I learned to love tiles. The ceramic tile atelier was more a labor of passion and tenacity than a business as it always seemed to be on the brink of bankruptcy. Each 14 X 14cm tile is produced from scratch and painted by hand. We wanted the Nortico Rosé label to capture that spirit and Portuguese aesthetics."

Summer Loving: 17 Rosés to Drink by Joseph Hernandez for Chicago Tribune 5/31
"Hailing from northern Portugal, right on the border with the famed Spanish region of Galicia, this wine is light on its feet, a sipper if there ever was one. A blend of indigenous grapes, it’s redolent with aromas of violet and oranges, with a zippy, uncomplicated palate, just the thing to cool you down while reading your book out in the sun."
