Today he farms a total of five hectares of vines,\u003cbr\u003eplanted amongst twenty five hectares of olive groves, prickly pear, fruit\u003cbr\u003eand almond trees over four hundred metres above sea level. The elevation\u003cbr\u003eresults in large differences between daytime and nighttime\u003cbr\u003etemperatures–a real boon in this typically Mediterranean climate.\u003cbr\u003eLAMORESCA\u003cbr\u003eSan Michele di Ganzaria, Sicilia\u003cbr\u003eThe vineyards are planted over clay, sandstone and silex and have been\u003cbr\u003eworked organically from the outset. This is a farm where biodiversity is\u003cbr\u003etruly cherished and in recent years, Filippo has begun replanting forests\u003cbr\u003eof carob, eucalyptus and ginesta next to the vines. Believing that good\u003cbr\u003ewine is made in the vines, in the cantina Filippo’s work is decidedly\u003cbr\u003eunfussy, resulting in pure, rustic and nourishing wines which speak\u003cbr\u003eloudly of Sicily.\u003cbr\u003eA blend of Nero d’Avola and Frappato from vines planted over sandstone\u003cbr\u003eand clay high in the hills outside San Michele di Ganzaria. The grapes\u003cbr\u003ewere fermented on the skins for a month, then aged in old wooden casks\u003cbr\u003efor one year, rendering a wine that is a little more compact and elegant\u003cbr\u003ethan previous vintages.
