As expected, there is another dimension on the nose that is immediately appreciated: more depth, the fruit leaning into the red side of the spectrum, touches of incense and musk in the background, more floral compared to the Échézeaux. Again, wonderful definition. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, fewer corners than the Echézeaux, more fluidity. Boasting fine depth and wondrous mineralité throughout, this is a captivating Grands-Échézeaux. Hints of dried blood/ferrous elements furnish the finish as they did out of barrel, completing a quite profound wine that challenges the notional supremacy of the Richebourg and Romanée-Saint-Vivant. Outstanding. 17,868 bottles produced.(NM)

Professional Reviews

94-

97

Jasper Morris

Review Date: 01/2025
A rich and even purple, a wealth of raspberry fruit without individual detail as yet. Here though there are additional dimensions, and one can see where the perfume will arise later. Some bright red cherry notes, better acidity. A little lifted strawberry at the back, as the stems add their character. This seems balanced and very solid. Drink from 2032-2040. Tasted Oct 2024.

96

Decanter

Review Date: 01/2026
This is a wine on a completely different plane, with tightly wound mulberry and plum fruit and hints of mineral, briar and earth on the nose. The texture is dense and powerful, with firm, tight-grained tannins, abundant extract, and an impressively long finish. The overall evolution is less ‘fruity’ and more ‘brooding’. This wine will begin to open fully in 10 years, and continue to improve for another 40 years after that. 17,686 bottles produced.(CC)

96

Tim Atkin

Review Date: 01/2025
Like the Echézeaux and Corton, the fresh oak is particularly marked on the nose and palate this year. Toast, fireplace embers and black plum preserves pump out of the glass. The style is vastly different from the Echézeaux, which is more vinous, while this is more muscular— defensive linemen sort of muscle, too. It's a massive mouthful of wine with ripe black fruits nuanced by flourishes of dark chocolate and underbrush. Bramble and cherries flush into the long finish framed by feathery tannins and soaring acidity. This needs at least seven to eight years and deserves at least a decade.

96

Wine Spectator

Review Date: 02/2026
By contrast, the Grands-Echézeaux leaned more in the red fruit and floral direction. It was silky and very intense, with a bit more grain to its tannins and more complexity than its sibling (96 points, non-blind).

93-

95

Burghound

Review Date: 01/2025
Note: from a holding of 3.53 ha of 55+ year old vines. This is also markedly floral but aromatically more restrained with its nose of plum, dark cherry, kirsch and equally exotically spiced nose and in particular, there is ample tea influence. There is both excellent detail and energy to the bigger-bodied and broad-shouldered but not necessarily denser flavors that conclude in a superbly persistent and powerful finish where a similar hint of warmth eventually emerges. As it often is at this stage, this is backward and compact but perhaps a bit less austere than usual.
