We strive to stay out of the way in our winemaking so as to not obscure terroir. When blending these wines each year we try our best to express the characteristics of place and embrace the vintage.
APPELLATION NOTES
The Sonoma Coast is one of the most stunning places on earth, and we are privileged that we get to farm grapes there. Within this large appellation, our preferred area is what is often referred to as the True Sonoma Coast (west), a more specific area that focuses on the ridges along the pacific Coast from the Sonoma/Mendocino County border down to Bodega Bay. Our estate vineyards Sealift and Tidal Break are planted here and they each benefit from the soil, elevation, and proximity to the Pacific Ocean. These characteristics define the terroir for growing world class Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Syrah.
WINEMAKER’S NOTES
A somewhat uncharacteristic yet extremely compelling version of a far Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir with scents of black cherry, pomegranate, and orange peel flying out of the glass. The palate is concentrated, but not thick, showing flavors of clove, cardamom, and raspberry pie filling. This wine has enough layers and complexity to cellar for 5-7 years but is quite approachable now with a few swirls of the glass to open it up. Pair with mushroom risotto, sesame chicken, or Korean Gochujang Noodles.
VINTAGE NOTES
The 2021 growing season was marked by a dry winter where the North Coast received lower than normal rainfall. This put the vines at risk as there was very limited water in the soil which triggered low vigor growth and a low fruit yield. Ultimately, a cool summer was the saving grace, and the tiny clusters were able to ripen evenly without experiencing dehydration which would lead to overwrought flavors. The resulting wines are a bit more concentrated in flavor and color, and 2021 should prove to be a spectacular, but unusual vintage.
WINEMAKER
Ryan Zepaltas
APPELLATION
Sonoma Coast
CLONES
55% Clone 115
35% Clone 667
10% Clone 777
SOIL
Goldridge Fine Sandy Loam
Henneke Gravelly Loam
AGING
16 months
5% new French oak
FERMENTATION
Hand sorted and de-stemmed, 10% whole cluster, native yeast and bacteria
BRIX AT HARVEST
22-23.5°
ALCOHOL
13.2%
PRODUCTION
990 cases

ACCLAIM

94 Points Wine Enthusiast
