We strive to stay out of the way in our winemaking so as to not obscure terroir. When blending these wines each year we try our best to express the characteristics of place and embrace the vintage.
APPELLATION NOTES
Blended from vineyards located in Philo and Navarro (the middle-to-far reach of the valley), which is the coolest part of the 18-mile long stretch. The blend for this wine hails from two stellar vineyards, blended from a varied selection of suitcase, Dijon and California heritage clones. This wine is as layered as it is diverse in its DNA.
WINEMAKER’S NOTES
On the nose, scents of blueberry pie, blood orange, wild strawberries and mint are sent into the air with a swirl of the glass. On the palate, an alluring display of baking spice, mushroom, and tart strawberry with posture and elegance created by fine grain tannins. Quite enjoyable upon release but will continue to gain complexity and plushness for at least 3-5 years. Pair with grilled salmon, mushrooms, or triple play cheese.
VINTAGE NOTES
The 2021 growing season was marked by a dry winter where the North Coast received lower than normal rainfall. This put the vines at risk as there was very limited water in the soil which triggered low vigor growth and a low fruit yield. Ultimately, a cool summer was the saving grace, and the tiny clusters were able to ripen evenly without experiencing dehydration which would lead to overwrought flavors. The resulting wines are a bit more concentrated in flavor and color, and 2021 should prove to be a spectacular, but unusual vintage.
WINEMAKER
Ryan Zepaltas
APPELLATION
Anderson Valley
VINEYARDS
60% Maggy Hawk
40% Edmeades
SOIL
Decomposed sandstone
CLONES
45% Clone 115
25% Wadenswil Clone
25% Clone 667
5% Clone 777
AGING
16 months
15% new French oak
FERMENTATION
Hand sorted, de-stemmed and fermented with native yeast and bacteria.
BRIX AT HARVEST
22.5°
ALCOHOL
13.1%
PRODUCTION
500 cases
