Heavy rainfall in the\u003cbr\u003e\nspring and an extended mild summer without any major heat spikes lead to a late ripening year. Most blocks\u003cbr\u003e\nwere picked four weeks later than the previous vintage. With the cool weather, grapes were allowed to\u003cbr\u003e\nslowly ripen, creating intense multi-dimensional fruit flavors and textures in the wine.\u003cbr\u003e\nThe Santa Lucia Highlands AVA is one of the largest submarine canyons influenced by maritime fog, breeze,\u003cbr\u003e\nand sunshine. This growing region has beautiful expressions of fruit while having intense concentration on\u003cbr\u003e\nthe palate. This Pinot Noir is balanced with blocks that delivered lively red fruit flavors combined with lots\u003cbr\u003e\nthat boasted strong dark fruit notes and tannins to deliver a rich, rewarding finish.\u003cbr\u003e\nThe winemakers carefully monitored the vines row by row to pick at the optimal time for each vineyard.\u003cbr\u003e\nBlocks and clones were kept separated and fermented to focus and deliver on unique site characteristics. The\u003cbr\u003e\nwine was coldsoaked to encourage gentle aroma and color extraction. Each lot was punched down or pumped\u003cbr\u003e\nover until desired tannic expression was reached, before being gently pressed. The lots were aged on selected\u003cbr\u003e\noak, undergoing a secondary fermentation to soften and round out the palate. The wines were racked and\u003cbr\u003e\nreturned to oak to develoP the rich, round balance and smooth finish. Prior to bottling, each lot was carefully\u003cbr\u003e\ntasted to determine selection for the final blend.\u003cbr\u003e\nThe 2023 Pinot Noir is the inaugural vintage of Black Stallion Wines hailing from the Santa Lucia Highlands\u003cbr\u003e\n– one of the most prestigious California appellations for distinctive and layered Pinot Noir.
